# About Baato

> Who we are, and why we build open map services for Nepal.

We are Baato.io, a cloud based map services provider.

Our offerings include keyword-based location search, coordinate-based reverse search, keyword-based autocomplete, intra-city navigation routes, and map tiles.

We also provide customized, enterprise-level services through our parent company, Mobera. Interested? Talk to us today.

## We are passionate about OpenStreetMap.

Here at [Kathmandu Living Labs](http://kathmandulivinglabs.org), we've been working tirelessly to make open geographical data accessible to the general public.

Using our local knowledge, and [with the help of thousands of remote volunteers in OpenStreetMap](https://www.nytimes.com/2015/05/02/world/asia/3-ways-nepalis-are-using-crowdsourcing-to-aid-in-quake-relief.html), we were able to put much needed geographical information in the hands of first-responders, and humanitarian agencies, and government offices [during](http://kathmandulivinglabs.github.io/timeline-sixmonths/) the 2015 Nepal Earthquake.

Since then, we've worked harder to apply our knowledge in our country and the region.

## We want to make OpenStreetMap accessible to businesses.

Upon having conversations with leading entrepreneurs from the country, we realized that tech-based businesses are still unable to solely rely on OpenStreetMap based services in production.

A few reasons include:

* data completeness within OSM,
* lack of technical knowledge on integrating and OSM based workflow into their development,
* reliability and accuracy of results provided by OSM based services.

We want to help fix this. Given our technical expertise of OSM, and our passion for the same, we feel this is the natural next step for us.

We want to step in and help Nepali businesses stay relevant and competitive in today's world.

We wouldn't miss it for the world.
